British commentator and Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested that London rivals Chelsea will be the main team to challenge his former club for the English Premier League (EPL) title this season.
Wright insisted that the Gunners must complete additional transfers before the transfer window closes to maintain an edge in the title race.
After a 22-year wait and three consecutive second-place finishes in the EPL, the Gunners eventually lifted the trophy in the 2025–26 season.
En route to becoming league champions, the North London outfit boasted the division’s strongest defence, conceding only 27 goals over 38 matches.
Mikel Arteta’s side won the league with 85 points, finishing seven points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. This summer, Arsenal have signed Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United and Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.

They now look poised to defend their title after an emphatic 3-0 win over Man City in the FA Community Shield played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday.
Despite enhancing the quality and depth of their squad and winning the league curtain-raiser convincingly, Wright believes Arsenal still need to do more business.
According to the 62-year-old, Chelsea could emerge as serious contenders for the Premier League title if their newly appointed manager, Xabi Alonso, starts well.
Speaking to Metro, he said: “Arsenal still have significant business to conduct, and progress has been slow thus far. City, Chelsea, and Liverpool all have new managers, which introduces an element of uncertainty.
“This season represents a major transition for City: no Bernardo Silva, Stones, Pep, or Rodri. Nevertheless, they possess Haaland, who can carry them far despite other challenges.
“I fancy Chelsea to challenge if Alonso gets a good start and is able to make them more solid defensively. They have brought in some experienced players, which they’ve needed for a while. I can see them getting into a good rhythm without European football.”
