Debutants Malawi continued their giant-killing prowess in the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), booking their place in the final with a 3-1 victory over Algeria in Rabat.

The Chawinga sisters were once again the stars of the show in the intriguing encounter, sharing three goals as the Scorchers continued their fairytale run in the tournament.

The older of the two sisters, Tabitha Chawinga, broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute after Algerian defender Morgane Belkhiter had already seen red. She executed an acrobatic overhead kick which cannoned off the crossbar, hit the turf, and spun extravagantly over the goal line.

Malawi then extended their lead in the first minute of first-half added time through her younger sister, Temwa Chawinga. However, their team-mate Rose Kadzere was dismissed before the break following another extended VAR check, this time for a studs-up lunge.

On the resumption of the second half, Ikram Adjabi gave Algeria hope with her strike, but Tabitha scored her brace in the 76th minute to snuff out any chance of a comeback.
