Afrobeats star and songwriter, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has reignited the long-running Afrobeats hierarchy debate after taking himself out of the popular “Big 3” narrative.

The Grammy-winning artist rejected the label in a video that recently trended online while addressing the topic at a live performance.

The “Big 3” tag has long been used by fans and commentators to describe the trio of Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido as the dominant forces in Afrobeats globally.

However, during the concert, the “Last Last” hitmaker set himself apart, essentially arguing that while the remaining artists could be grouped together, he is not in the same bracket.

Rather than accept the label, Burna Boy told his audience to push back against the term, saying: “The next time anybody tells you about it, they call it a Big 3. Tell them that there’s only a Big 2, and then there’s Burna Boy.”
