Manchester United’s new recruit, Andrey Santos, has identified his preferred position and area of strength as the new English Premier League (EPL) season prepares to kick off.

The 22-year-old made this known to the club’s manager, Michael Carrick, recently after completing his transfer to Old Trafford, as reported by CentreDevils on X.

Santos joined Manchester United this summer in a deal reportedly worth £48 million from West London outfit and EPL rivals Chelsea.

Prior to his arrival, Carrick’s team had lost experienced defensive midfielder Casemiro following the expiration of his contract this summer.

In response, the Red Devils brought in reinforcements in the mould of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Speaking about the move, the Brazilian midfielder emphasised his intention to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot, Casemiro, at United.

Santos also expressed his desire to replicate the playing style of the former Real Madrid midfield powerhouse, who joined MLS giants Inter Miami this summer.

He said: “Casemiro for me is like a legend, you know. So now he’s gone, and now I’m here, so I feel that I can do what Casemiro did and I’m here to do it.

“As for my qualities, I prefer playing deeper as a number six. I try to help my teammates without the ball, and with the ball, I love breaking the lines.”

Casemiro, who is widely acknowledged as one of the premier defensive midfielders of the modern era, made 160 appearances for the 20-time English champions, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists.
