RCCG convention: Adeboye endorses Vital Health’s ongoing free 3-day screening for pastors, families
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has approved a free three-day cardiometabolic health screening for pastors, missionaries, and their families, which began today at the church’s 2026 Annual Convention.
In a memo dated July 27, 2026, signed by Pastor Oladele A. Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer (Admin), and addressed to continental overseers and pastors-in-charge of regions and provinces, the church said screening will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first day and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the remaining two days. More than 3,000 participants are expected.
Already, hundreds of pastors and their families are currently been screened.
Participants will be screened for hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and other cardiometabolic risk factors. Those found to be at elevated risk will receive counselling, preventive health education and medication at no cost. The memo urged all continental and regional officers to circulate the information to eligible pastors, missionaries and their families within their jurisdictions.
Vital Health International, one of the partners for the outreach, is led by Dr. Joe Tarkon, a U.S.-based physician and Senior Pastor of RCCG City of David Parish in Atlanta, Georgia.
Through the NGO, Dr. Tarkon has mobilised teams of local and foreign medical professionals for a series of free healthcare outreaches across Nigeria. These missions typically combine medical consultations, surgeries and diagnostics with evangelistic crusades and leadership training for host communities.
In December 2023, Vital Health International provided free medical interventions to the Ugep community in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State. Working alongside local physicians, Dr. Tarkon and three U.S.-based doctors delivered consultations and surgeries that saw at least 53 surgical procedures completed and more than 420 individuals receive free consultations and medications.
On May 17, 2024, the team donated several cartons of pharmaceutical products to the OAU Health Centre. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, who received the donation, said over 35,000 students and 4,000 staff would benefit.
In December 2024, the outreach moved to Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos where a team of more than 65 medical professionals including surgeons, physicians, ophthalmologists, dentists, pharmacists and lab scientists provided services. At least 1,000 persons benefited from general consultations, eye and dental care, while no fewer than 40 surgeries were performed.
On December 3, 2025, residents of Lafiaji, an underserved community along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, benefited from a one-day medical outreach by Vital Health International in partnership with RCCG The Oasis, Lekki. About 600 patients received various levels of care and medications.
The following day, December 4, 2025, the team was in Agbowa, Lagos for a three-day outreach. The mission included free general consultations, comprehensive examinations, surgeries, dental care, optometry and other specialised interventions. About 1,000 patients received consultations and medications, while 35 patients underwent surgical procedures.
