Neymar is only the second player in Brazilian history, after Pelé, to score in four different World Cups, scoring a remarkable total of 80 goals for the Seleção.

Brazilian striker Neymar Jr has made it clear that the decision whether or not to continue wearing Brazil’s national team shirt rests with him, not his father.
He made this known after his father suggested that the 34-year-old forward may not have completely finished his career with the Seleção, despite announcing his retirement last month.
After nearly three years of being snubbed by the Brazilian national team, Neymar eventually made a return to the squad during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The all-time leading scorer for the Seleção came off the bench in the final 15 minutes of the 3-0 group stage victory over Scotland and also scored their consolation goal in their 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16.

In the aftermath of the loss, an emotional Neymar confirmed that he had played his last game for Brazil and would be retiring from international football.
However, his father suggested that a return to the Seleção might still be possible, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano:
“I can’t guarantee that he’s 100% done with the Seleção. Maybe he can come back.”
Reacting to the statement, Neymar dismissed the idea that his retirement from international football might not be definitive, saying: “It’s not my dad playing!”
