Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has hailed winger Mykhailo Mudryk’s return to action after he was cleared to start training again with the Blues, describing the Ukrainian as a “special player”.
The Spanish tactician made this known recently while speaking to journalists on the 25-year-old winger’s possible impact after his reinstatement.
Mudryk will join Chelsea’s pre-season tour after resolving his doping case with the Football Association (FA).
The Ukrainian international has not played a match since November 2024 after being provisionally suspended for returning an ‘adverse finding’ for the banned substance meldonium.

However, the English FA recently ended its anti-doping proceedings against him after he accepted breaching anti-doping rules and agreed to a suspension equal to the one year and eight months already served.
Reacting to the ban lifting after Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat by 10-man Tottenham in a friendly in Sydney, Alonso described Mudryk as a special player, adding that he is looking forward to working with him at Stamford Bridge.
The former Real Madrid manager also recalled the player’s time at Shakhtar Donetsk.
’I remember watching him in Shakhtar, the impact he had, how quick he is, how good in one-on-one situations, how he could create a lot of situations on his own, and he is a special player, but he will take time for sure,’ Alonso said (via Football.London).
