Eddie Howe replaced Steve Bruce as manager in 2021, and ended Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by winning the 2025 Carabao Cup.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is set to part ways with the English Premier League (EPL) outfit following discussions with the club hierarchy.
According to the BBC, well-placed sources indicated that his decision is a measure of the club’s transfer business so far this summer, though he was aware of the necessity for the club to sell players.
Prior to this development, Howe had decided to remain at St James’ Park regardless of the inevitability of sales, but his perspective changed over the summer.
In March, Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson said the club were “not having those conversations” about a change of manager “at the moment”.
The Magpies have already signed 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim for £42m, 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax for £23m, and 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims for £18.5m.

However, after a summer in which Newcastle have lost Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon to Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona respectively, alongside uncertainty over captain Bruno Guimarães, who is being heavily linked with Arsenal, the English tactician seems to have changed his mind.
Howe led Newcastle to Champions League qualification in 2023 and 2025, reaching the last 16 of the elite competition last season before losing 8-3 on aggregate to Barcelona.
Their EFL Cup defence ended in the semi-finals, whilst their league performance was severely underwhelming after finishing fifth in 2024–25.
Newcastle won 84 of their 179 Premier League games under Howe, drawing 38 and losing 57.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have reportedly started the process of finding Howe’s successor, with a number of names on the shortlist of sporting director Ross Wilson and CEO David Hopkinson.
