Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has expressed optimism that the Super Falcons will bounce back and qualify from their group despite their disappointing start to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
He made this known recently while appearing as a guest on a programme on the popular sports radio station, Brila FM.
Nigeria began the defence of their WAFCON title in the worst possible manner after losing 3–2 to debutants, the Scorchers of Malawi.
Despite going into the encounter as clear favourites, the Super Falcons were unable to contain the in-form sisters, Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga.

While Temwa bagged a brace, Tabitha added a third. Despite goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and substitute Uchenna Kanu, the champions were unable to pull off a comeback.
The Super Falcons must now beat the Copper Queens of Zambia in their next Group C game to stand a chance of progressing into the knockout round.
Zambia top the group on goal difference after thrashing the Cleopatras of Egypt 6–0 in their opening fixture.
Reacting to the surprise loss, Udeze said the defeat to Malawi is a wake-up call for the Super Falcons and backed the team to bounce back against Zambia.
Speaking during his interview, the former defender said: “This is a lesson, and I hope they’ve learnt their lesson. I believe they will bounce back against Zambia.”
