Captain of the Malawi senior women’s football team, Tabitha Chawinga, has pleaded with Nigeria’s Super Falcons not to inflict a heavy defeat on her team during their opening Group C clash of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
She jokingly made the appeal recently during a webinar organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Malawi, who will be making their debut at the tournament, will face the defending champions in a fixture billed for the Al Madina Stadium, Rabat, on Tuesday, 28 August.
It will be the first-ever meeting between the Super Falcons and the Scorchers, and Nigeria are the overwhelming favourites to win the contest.
Speaking about the clash, Chawinga, who plays for French club Olympique Lyonnais, begged Justine Madugu’s side to take things easy against them.
She went on to demand that the reigning champions take their foot off the gas and ensure that the encounter does not end up in their annihilation.
”Super Falcons need to calm down. Do not give us 5-0, please. 1-0 is enough,” Chawinga pleaded.
