Police arrest Adeyemi, DG of ‘fake’ PFIPC
By Ishaya Ibrahim
The police have arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the director general of a fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The arrest came following a Federal High Court in Abuja order on Tuesday which ordered his arrest.
Justice Mohammed Umar issued the warrant for the defendant’s arrest following an oral application by the prosecution.
Argument made by Adeyemi’s lawyer over his client’s absence was waved.
The defence lawyer said his client was absent from court because he feared for his life and that he had written a letter to President Bola Tinubu regarding it.
He added that Adeyemi intended to stay alive to face his trial.
But Justice Umar responded by telling the lawyer that the court would “help him to be alive.”
The judge then issued a bench warrant for Adeyemi’s arrest.
The judge set 30 September as the new date for his arraignment.
It is not clear if Adeyemi voluntarily turned himself in to the police or was arrested. A video showed police officers asking him about his name. He declined to answer on the grounds that he had earlier responded to the question.
Adeyemi faces eight count charges relating to his running and operation of purported PFIPC, an agency the Presidency has said does not exist.
