Afrobeats singer and songwriter Augustine Kelechi Okechukwu, better known as Tekno, has asserted that love witnessed a decline and eventually “stopped working” after 2020, adding that relationships have not been the same since.

The Skeletun hitmaker made this known recently during an interview with Cool FM Lagos.

According to Tekno, people grew fatigued and realised they did not have the level of affection they thought they had for their partners after spending more time than usual with them during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown.

He also claimed several marriages and relationships broke down after the pandemic, leading to a skyrocket in infidelity.

“I think since after 2020, love is not the same. I think during the lockdown people got to spend time with their lovers and realised, ‘Maybe I didn’t love this person as much as I think.’ I think we just grew fatigued of the ones we thought we loved the most,” Tekno said.

He added, “If you can’t appreciate the absence, then the presence doesn’t really matter. So, I feel like since 2020, people have leaned into not wanting to love as much. Marriages don’t work. You have some of our legends’ wives being chopped by young boys.

“There was a time when love was a thing; even our movies revolved around love. But now movies are just clout. It doesn’t feel organic.”
