Spain and Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has applauded the level that Argentina captain Lionel Messi has displayed so far at the 2026 World Cup.
The 18-year-old forward hailed the Inter Miami superstar recently while speaking with Mundo Deportivo.
According to Yamal, nobody expected his club’s former striker to produce such amazing displays at this stage of his career and at his age.

Messi currently leads the race for the Golden Boot at the tournament with eight goals. The 39-year-old has also scored in nine consecutive World Cup matches.
While eulogising him, Yamal said: “Leo Messi has been incredible so far. We all know who Messi is but… no one expected this sort of level at the World Cup. I’m so happy for him.”
Messi will be hoping to inspire Argentina again when they play Switzerland in the quarter-finals this weekend.
Yamal, on the other hand, has a date with fellow European nation Belgium when they clash with Spain in the tournament’s last-eight fixtures.
