Arsenal have tabled a bid worth £55 million to secure the services of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United.
The move was revealed on Friday by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano in a post shared on his official X page.
According to the transfer expert, the North London club made a formal approach within the last 24 hours for the 28-year-old.
However, after opening talks with the Magpies, the North London outfit had their opening offer rejected immediately.
Taking to his verified handle, Romano wrote: “Arsenal made formal approach in last 24h for Bruno Guimarães.
“Plan to try open talks for £55m was immediately rejected by Newcastle.
“#NUFC want to keep Bruno and told Arsenal they won’t sell for that fee.”
Guimarães has entered the final two years of his contract with Newcastle United.
He has been in impressive form for Brazil at the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament.
