Oseni argued that the same issues that prompted the APC’s call are currently being witnessed under the Tinubu-led government.

Popular TV anchor Rufai Oseni has called out Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, over a recent attack on the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The media personality was responding to a now-viral post by Onanuga during a morning programme on Arise Television on Tuesday.

Earlier, Obi, in a post on his verified handle, had urged President Tinubu to emulate the UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, by tendering his resignation, citing his administration’s inability to tackle the nation’s economic and security crises.

Reacting to the former Anambra governor’s call, Onanuga described his position as puerile, adding that he was being childish.

Taking to his X page on Monday, the presidential aide wrote: “Peter Obi’s latest comments calling for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation, based on a comparison with the British prime minister’s voluntary exit, are not only misplaced but also reflect a selective and distorted view of Nigeria’s realities since 2023.”

However, while wading into the saga, Oseni reminded Onanuga that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had called for a parallel government prior to 2015, before it took over power.

He also argued that the same maladministration that prompted the APC’s call in 2014 is currently being witnessed under the Tinubu-led government.

Oseni said: “Was the APC also childish when it called for the resignation of Goodluck Jonathan? What they said Jonathan should resign for has happened under them too.

“This was the same APC that called for a parallel government if they didn’t win the 2015 election. Do you know what a parallel government is? That’s anarchy.

“They didn’t only say it; they went to defend it on television. So Obi called for a resignation and they said it is puerile.”
