Former Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah, has expressed joy after Egypt recorded their first-ever win at a FIFA World Cup tournament.
He hailed the landmark victory while addressing journalists after the Pharaohs defeated New Zealand 3-1 in the early hours of Monday.
Salah scored one goal and created another as Egypt came from behind to beat the Kiwis in the encounter played at BC Place, Vancouver, in Canada.
The result leaves Hossam Hassan’s men at the top of Group G with four points from two matches, ahead of Iran, Belgium, and New Zealand.

Speaking during his post-match interview, Salah was quoted by FIFA’s website as saying the performance was “incredible”.
The 34-year-old winger, however, urged his teammates to enjoy the special moment in the history of the North African country and “then focus on the next game”.
He added: “I don’t know how to express it in words. It’s a great achievement for all the players, for the staff, so hopefully we can carry on like this in the group, and we can write history and qualify, and in years to come it will be remembered as one of the best achievements in the history [of Egyptian football].
“We have to enjoy today, enjoy tomorrow, then focus on the next game.”
