Osimhen laments Nigeria’s absence from 2026 World Cup, says ‘It’s bad’

Osimhen noted that Nigeria has now missed out on the World Cup two consecutive times.

Galatasaray star, Victor Osimhen, has rued the absence of Nigeria’s Super Eagles from the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The 27-year-old forward regretted missing out on the tournament during a recent interaction with his fans on a social media stream.

This year’s edition of the World Cup, being jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, kicked off last week with 48 teams.

The African continent is represented by the likes of Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Tunisia, South Africa, and Algeria.

Three-time African champions Nigeria, however, failed to qualify after losing their World Cup playoff against DR Congo.

Reflecting on the Super Eagles’ absence from the competition, Osimhen expressed his disappointment, saying, “It’s bad.”

He further noted that Nigeria has missed out on the global spectacle two consecutive times, adding that “we just have to keep moving.”

Speaking on the missed opportunity, the Turkey-based striker said: “It’s bad, not just for me but for the rest of the guys. We have missed out twice in a row. Sometimes life happens, so we just have to keep moving.”
