The Opta supercomputer has predicted the potential outcome of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.

The most prestigious trophy in European club football is at stake at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest this Saturday, as the continent’s leading offence squares up against its meanest defence.

While PSG are aiming to be the first club other than Real Madrid to successfully defend the trophy in the UCL era, Arsenal are seeking to become the fourth distinct English club to win the top-flight title and the European championship in the same season.

Historically, only three English clubs have managed to win both the domestic league title and the European Cup or Champions League in the same campaign: Liverpool (in 1976–77 and 1983–84), Manchester United (in 1998–99 and 2007–08), and Manchester City (in 2022–23).

Predicting the outcome of the eagerly anticipated final, the Opta supercomputer gave the title holders, PSG, a 56% probability of successfully defending their Champions League crown.

However, it projected that the North London outfit, Arsenal, could achieve the double in 44% of the simulated scenarios.
