Chelsea star João Pedro has stated that football is a mixture of joy and sadness after being left out of Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
He made his feelings known after Brazil’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, unveiled his roster for the tournament on Monday.
To the amazement of many fans of the South American nation, João Pedro was among the names omitted by the experienced Italian tactician.
Despite Chelsea’s challenging season, the Blues forward was one of the club’s standout players and had hoped to secure a place in the World Cup squad.

However, Ancelotti opted to leave him out, despite the forward scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances for his club this season.
Reacting to the disappointment, Pedro stated, as reported by Fabrizio Romano: “I endeavoured to perform at my best consistently. Regrettably, I could not realise my dream of representing my nation in a World Cup, but I remain composed and focused, as I always strive to be.
“Joy and frustration are integral to football. Moving forward, I wish the best of luck to all those participating, and I will be just another supporter cheering for them to bring home the sixth title.”
Ancelotti also commented on the decision, saying: “I feel sorrow for players who have been excluded, such as João Pedro. They will have opportunities in the future.”
