Spanish tactician, Xabi Alonso, has promised to build a trophy-winning team after Chelsea announced his appointment as their manager on a four-year contract.
The former Liverpool midfielder made this known on Sunday while speaking to the West London club’s website.
Confirmation of his arrival comes after the Blues lost the FA Cup final to Manchester City on Saturday.
Alonso arrives at Chelsea having already experienced coaching at the highest level of European football with Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, where he led the German club to the first league title in their history.

According to the London club, he will begin his role on July 1, 2026, having agreed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Reacting to the news, Alonso acknowledged that Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world, adding that he is pleased to become their manager.
The Spaniard also promised to reward the fans and management of the club with trophies during his tenure.
Following his appointment, Alonso said: “Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football, and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club.
“From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition. We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies.”
