Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed how his team will approach their UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final first-leg tie against Atlético Madrid, assuring fans his players will go toe-to-toe with their hosts on Wednesday night.

He made this known during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday when asked about his game plan for the encounter.

According to Arteta, it is vital to identify the opposition’s threats and understand “what makes the La Liga team tick” while confronting them.

He added that the Gunners must be prepared to test Diego Simeone’s side early, disrupt their rhythm, and match them in every department.

While analysing his tactics, the gaffer said: “Understanding what’s happening at the moment, how they’re activated, and what makes them tick” is essential.

Arteta continued: “We have identified their threats. Tomorrow, we have to be able to test them quickly and not let them pass. And above all, we have to make sure that we go toe-to-toe with them.”

While Eberechi Eze and Riccardo Calafiori appear to have recovered in time for the clash, Arteta will be without the services of Kai Havertz, who remains sidelined with an injury.
