Customs anti-smuggling team seizes 43,750 litres petrol in Kwara

The Operation Whirlwind team of the axis of Niger and Kwara states of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has seized from the smugglers 43,750 litres of premium motor spirit (petrol) in Kwara State and its environs.

The seized fuel was contained in 1, 510 jerry-cans of 25 litres each and 30 drums of 200 litres each.

National Coordinator of the Operation Whirlwind, Abubakar Aliyu, said at the public auction of the seized petrol at the Ilorin office of the NCS that the estimated Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the petrol is N43,750,000.

He disclosed that the men of the Operation based on credible intelligence, successfully intercepted the consignment at several strategic flashpoints in the state.

He mentioned the flashpoints to include, Kaiama, Shiya, Kenu, Boriya, Luma, Bokuru-Baruten, Ilesha-Baruba, Taberu, and Salla-Gwanara areas.

Aliyu said interception of the consignment underscores resolute dedication of the service to upholding the laws and policies designed to safeguard e the nation’s strategic resources and ensure they are managed in a manner that serves the collective interest of all citizens.

He commended the officers and personnel of the Operation and the collaborating partner agencies for the seizure of the consignment.

The coordinator warned that the operation would consistently fiercely fight illegal smuggling of petroleum products and advised those who engage in the act to desist.

“Let this serve as clear and unequivocal warning to all individuals involved in nefarious activities of illegal smuggling of petroleum products; the era of impunity has come to an end.

‘Operation Whirlwind is resolute, proactive, and firmly driven by intelligence in its operations. We will continue to identify, pursue, intercept, and dismantle smuggling networks wherever they may exist,” he stated.
