Iwobi labels Fernandez, Nwaiwu’s Super Eagles debuts ‘solid’

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has stated that Emmanuel Fernandez and Chibuike Nwaiwu put up “solid” performances during their debut appearances for the Super Eagles.

He made this known recently while appearing as a guest on the latest edition of the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast.

Fernandez and Nwaiwu came off the bench in the second half of Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly victory over Iran in March, held in Antalya, Turkey.

Goals from Akor Adams and Moses Simon sealed the win for Eric Chelle’s side.

Reflecting on the match, Iwobi praised the performance of their opponents, Iran, noting that they are a strong side.

He went on to applaud Fernandez and Nwaiwu for their contributions to the hard-earned win against the Persian nation.

“Nice to get the win. Credit to Iran—they’re a good, solid team,” he said.

Iwobi added: “Credit to us, we got the two goals we needed. Shout out to the two centre-backs who played the second half on their debuts. They did well—they were solid. It was a good performance. We won, and that gives us a confidence boost.”
