Afrobeats singer and record producer Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has made it clear that her future husband must be “God-fearing”.
The ‘Me & U’ singer shared these insights during a recent interview with media personality Angie Martinez.
According to the 32-year-old artist, marriage should be driven by a desire for growth rather than based on mere feelings.
The Grammy Award winner noted that marriage inevitably faces difficult periods, adding that people should approach the commitment with the awareness that it will not always be easy.

She further explained that, due to the unpredictable nature of marriage, she prioritises a partner with a strong spiritual foundation.
According to the singer, such an individual is more likely to be responsible and accountable within the relationship.
Speaking during the chat, Tems said: “My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to? If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?
“If you’re the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want. But marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should. It shouldn’t be about only love; it’s about compatibility.
“It’s about whether a relationship makes you a better person—how it evolves you. Because marriage is a whole other level; it is supposed to bring out the hard times.”
