Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has disclosed that he came close to joining Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich before sealing his move to the North London outfit, saying, “I was very close.”
He made this known while speaking ahead of the Gunners’ Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday at Wembley Stadium.
Raya made his loan move to Arsenal from fellow Premier League club Brentford permanent in 2024.
Since then, the 30-year-old Spanish international has been impressive for Mikel Arteta’s side after becoming their first-choice goalkeeper.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the final, Raya admitted his career could have taken a dramatically different path had he moved to Germany.
He said: “I was very close to going to another club before joining Arsenal.
“And luckily, that did not happen, so Arsenal made the bid. The club was FC Bayern.”
