Argentine striker and Inter Miami captain, Lionel Messi, has scored the 900th goal of his footballing career.

​The 38-year-old forward achieved the milestone after scoring in his team’s 1-1 draw with Nashville SC in a CONCACAF Champions Cup second-leg tie on Wednesday.

Messi picked up the ball within the opening 10 minutes, cut onto his left foot, and fired across goal to give Miami the lead.

​However, Cristian Espinoza cancelled out the opener as Miami crashed out of the continental competition.

​Following the feat, Messi becomes only the second footballer in history to reach the landmark of 900 career goals—the other being Cristiano Ronaldo.

It has taken the former Barcelona and PSG forward 1,142 games to hit 900, while Ronaldo required 1,236 matches.

​Of this tally, Messi scored 672 for Barcelona, 32 for Paris Saint-Germain, 81 during his time in Miami, and 115 goals for Argentina.

​Meanwhile, the legendary Brazilian striker Pelé remains third on the all-time list with 765 goals.
