Ace record producer and mixing engineer Osabuohien Osaretin, better known as Sarz, has argued that poor infrastructure—especially the erratic electricity supply—negatively impacts Nigeria’s creative industry.

The music executive expressed his frustrations recently while appearing as a guest on the latest episode of the Afropolitan podcast.

According to Sarz, a lack of power at the exact moment creative individuals feel inspired can lead to a waste of potential.

The 36-year-old further emphasised that he has never experienced 24 hours of uninterrupted electricity in the country since he was born.

”I was born and raised in this country and I have never experienced electricity for 24 hours. There are times when I wake up feeling inspired and I want to create music but there is no light. Sometimes, even when you want to buy fuel, they will tell you that there is a strike or scarcity. And then you end up doing nothing and the potential is just wasted,” Sarz said.

He added, “As a creative person, you need to be mentally charged to perform at your best. So, when the infrastructure is lacking at the moment you are mentally charged, it is a challenge.”

He went on to pinpoint that infrastructure is vital for the entertainment industry to thrive, stressing that the Nigerian scene is currently limited by the lack of it.
