Danish pundit and former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has said Arsenal’s David Raya is the most improved player in the English Premier League (EPL) so far.
The Red Devils legend made his views known on Viaplay while analysing Arsenal’s 2-1 derby win over London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates.
Raya made crucial saves during the highly consequential encounter, ensuring the Gunners picked up the three points at stake and extended their lead over Man City to five points.
The Spanish international has solidified his permanent status with the Gunners since joining the club in 2024, following an initial loan spell from Brentford.

Speaking about Raya on the programme, Schmeichel admitted he was initially critical of Mikel Arteta’s decision to replace Aaron Ramsdale.
He noted that, following the Spanish shot-stopper’s performances, he could now see why Arsenal allowed a goalkeeper of Ramsdale’s quality to leave.
“I did not understand when Raya came from Brentford to join Arsenal, because they had Aaron Ramsdale and he was doing very well,” Schmeichel said.
He added: “I did not get it, and I was very critical at the time: you can’t have two number ones, you have to choose one—why do you bring Raya in? I think he is probably the most improved player in the Premier League over the last three seasons.”
