He made this known recently while appearing as a guest on a programme on the popular radio station Naija FM Lagos.

According to the thespian-turned-politician, he entered politics to become a policymaker, as the poor decisions made by the current crop of politicians are affecting him as negatively as they are every other Nigerian.

The 31-year-old actor also noted that Nigeria has been retrogressing over the years, and he wants to be among those who will rise to save the nation from total collapse.

He further cited the ageing profile of the current crop of politicians as a key factor that influenced his decision.

Speaking during the interview, Oworu said: “I decided to join politics because of the direction the country is heading. I know what Nigeria was like when I was younger, but now things keep getting worse. I want to start a family and raise my kids here.

“So, I have to ensure I try my best to be among the policymakers; whatever policy is enacted will ultimately affect me like any other person.

“Also, most of the current crop of politicians are ageing out. Whatever policies they make today, it is my friends and I who will be at the receiving end tomorrow,” he explained.

Olumide Oworu contested for a seat in the House of Assembly, representing the Surulere 1 constituency in Lagos State under the Labour Party during the 2023 elections, but lost to his colleague, Desmond Elliot.

Despite the setback, Oworu’s interest in politics remains undeterred, and he intends to stay actively involved.
