The Ogun State Police Command has refuted reports of the arrest of a Lagos-based TikToker, known simply as Mirabel, stating that contrary to rumours making the rounds on social media, she is not in custody.

Mirabel, whose username on TikTok is @mirab351, recently claimed she and her friend were sexually assaulted by a yet-to-be-identified man in a now-viral video she shared online.

The incident, which the content creator claimed happened on Friday, 8 February, sparked heated conversations across various social media platforms under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen, as Nigerians demanded the arrest and prosecution of the alleged rapist.

However, reports currently circulating online suggest that police, after an investigation, later found the allegation to be false. The news further claimed that Mirabel had been arrested by the police for misleading the public.

Reacting to the claims on Thursday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, while speaking with Daily Post, debunked the story, insisting that the investigation is still ongoing.

“The case is still under investigation, and in due time, we will get to know whether it is true or false, but for now, we are still investigating,” the PPRO said.

Asked if Mirabel is in custody, Babaseyi said, “We did not arrest her, so she is not in custody. When there is an arrest, we will make it public.”
