He also noted that Guardiola has revolutionised football and the way people understand the game today.

Eulogising his mentor, Arteta said: “I have learnt from Pep since I was 15, when we first met at Barcelona.

”Then I had the privilege to work with him and to experience so many incredible moments together. He was a master—in my opinion, the best in history.

”He has revolutionised the game and the way people understand the game. To be a part of that was just an incredible experience. I am very grateful.”

Arteta and Guardiola are currently locked in a tight Premier League race; Arsenal lead Man City by six points with 13 games to go.
