The Lagos State Police Command has announced that it is investigating officers accused of assaulting the popular actor and skit maker, Ganiyu Morufu, widely known as Ijoba Lande.
This was disclosed on Friday in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, following a public outcry over the alleged incident.
Earlier, a video trending on social media showed the entertainer with visible facial injuries, including blood stains around his eyes, while onlookers poured water on his face in an attempt to assist him.
The footage also featured scenes from a location believed to be a police facility, where Ijoba Lande appeared to be reporting the attack.
In the video, the actor, speaking in Yoruba, accused operatives attached to the Area “J” Division of the Lagos State Police Command of assaulting him, confiscating his mobile phone, and stealing cash belonging to his brother.

The caption accompanying the video read: “I returned from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police officers in Nigeria. They took my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life.”
Addressing the incident, the Lagos State Police spokesperson confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and taken into custody.
She added that they are currently undergoing an internal investigation, with statements being obtained from all parties, including the officers, the actor, and an accompanying friend.
“The officers involved have been identified and brought before the command for investigation. At present, the officers, the complainant, and his friend are all providing their statements. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Adebisi said.
She further assured the public that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness and that appropriate actions will be taken once investigations have been concluded.
