Okonjo-Iweala distances self from social media post attacking Tinubu

By Jeffrey Agbo

World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has dismissed a viral social media post falsely attributed to her, which allegedly criticised President Bola Tinubu over Nigeria’s security challenges.

In a statement posted on her verified X account Friday, the former Minister of Finance described the message as fabricated and deceptive, advising the public to ignore it.

She explained that the fake post, which had spread widely across social media platforms, was another attempt to exploit her name for political mischief.

“I have recently been made aware of yet another fake post circulating on social media purporting to quote me as criticising President Tinubu. This is completely false,” she clarified.

Okonjo-Iweala urged Nigerians to fact-check information before sharing it and warned against using the names of public figures to advance political propaganda.

The WTO boss reaffirmed her dedication to her global duties and to promoting trade-driven economic growth in developing nations, including Nigeria.
