Liverpool boss, Arne Slot has blamed winger, Jeremie Frimpong for his team’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League game played on Saturday at Selhurst Park.

TheNiche had earlier reported that
Eddie Nketiah’s dramatic last-gasp winner ended the Reds’ five-match winning start to the season.

Palace dominated the opening exchanges and took the lead through Ismaïla Sarr in the 9th minute, but Federico Chiesa equalized for the visitors in the 87th minute.

Just as it looked like the home side would pay the price for wasting a host of chances, Nketiah struck with virtually the last kick of the enthralling encounter.

He found the net after Frimpong, who came on in the 74th minute to replace Ibrahima Konaté, got caught under the ball as it was inadvertently glanced on by fellow substitute Curtis Jones.

While analysing the winning goal, Slot said Liverpool conceded that second goal because Frimpong was too attack minded.

He said, “We can only blame ourselves for defending the way we did.

“One of our players  ran out because he wanted to play a counter-attack, which was of no use because time was up, so it was only about defending.

“One player was too offensively minded in that moment, which led to them scoring the winner and us losing the game.”

Also speaking in his post-match interview, Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner praised Nketiah for getting the winning goal.

He added that his team defeated the Premier League champions because his players put in a great performance against them.

“We played the best first half since I arrived. We were 1-0 up but teams like Liverpool are able to strike back. The pressure was high and then they got the equalizer,” Glasner told Sky Sports.

“But huge credit to the players, we struck back and got the winner at the end. I’m delighted for Eddie Nketiah coming back from a long injury.

“These are the moments why we love football. We deserved it. Great performance, great game, great win.”
