Nothing stops Seyi Tinubu from contesting Lagos governorship – Bwala

By Jeffrey Agbo

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has defended Seyi Tinubu’s political aspirations, insisting the president’s son is qualified to run for governor of Lagos State.

Speaking on The Clarity Zone podcast posted on YouTube on Wednesday, Bwala rejected claims that Seyi’s influence is tied only to his father’s position, arguing that he has earned recognition as a bridge-builder among young Nigerians.

“If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos State governor? Seyi Tinubu can even challenge his father in the next election,” Bwala said.

He described Seyi as “humble and unassuming” despite his privileged background, and credited him with consistently supporting young people in accessing opportunities, including those from rival political parties.

“At a point, he was even criticised for the people he brought into government, who were mostly Obidients. That tells you he doesn’t have biases,” he noted.

Bwala added that his past criticism of the Tinubu administration has not affected his relationship with Seyi, whom he described as mature and capable of separating politics from personal interactions.

He further pointed out that, unlike children of previous Nigerian leaders, Seyi has avoided controversies or scandals.

“You will never see him attacking people on social media, even though his father is one of the most vilified in recent memory. He has built relationships even with critics of this government,” Bwala said.

Urging Nigerians to form their opinions based on personal experience rather than public perception, Bwala added: “Until you experience somebody, don’t have an opinion of them. Too many people inherit other people’s problems without any personal encounter.”
