Former Nigerian midfielder and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has said South Africa could face points deduction after they allegedly used an ineligible player against Lesotho in a 2026 World Cup qualifier earlier this year.
He made this known recently while reacting to Lesotho’s lodgement of official protest to FIFA over the incident.
South Africa featured Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho in March despite picking up two yellow cards in previous qualifiers.
Although the infraction has been reported to FIFA, the football body is yet to announce its verdict.

Speaking on the development, Oliseh,
who is a member of FIFA’s Technical Group, said Bafana Bafana are in danger of receiving sanctions from the world football governing body.
He added that standard penalties for fielding ineligible player include the forfeiture of the match.
He said: “To the best of my knowledge South Africa is in trouble.
“If a team fields an ineligible player and a valid protest is upheld, standard penalties include the forfeiture of the match.
“The result is typically overturned to a 3-0 defeat for the offending team, regardless of the actual score, resulting in the loss of three points for South Africa in this case and an award of three points to Lesotho.”
