Afrobeats singer and songwriter, Alexander Adegbola Akande, better known as 9ice, has claimed the music industry is controlled by the devil.

The ‘Gongo Aso’ crooner made this known while featuring on the latest episode of ‘The Nancy Isime Show’.

In his words, musicians smoke and partake in other vices because they are influenced by the devil.

He said, “The devil controls music. Devil is the choirmaster. That’s why we smoke and do all the things we do.”

He added, “Music generally is controlled by the devil. If you’re coming to this industry, understand where you’re coming to.

“I’m not lying to you. He [the devil] is the most powerful angel. I’m speaking based on knowledge and what I’ve experienced spiritually.”

He also said his controversial “prophesy” about winning a Grammy with his song ‘Street Credibility’ featuring 2Face, has been fulfilled by his colleague, Burna Boy.

The 45-year-old added that his critics were wrong, stressing that his verse fits as a prediction for Burna Boy’s Grammy win.

He explained that at the time he made the song, Grammy was not attainable for Afropop artistes.

He said, “I was talking about Grammy and I wasn’t given, Burna [Boy] got it. We [Nigerians] never get am?

“At the time I was talking about it, it wasn’t even attainable for Afropop artists at all. That’s why I said when artists sing, they can be passing messages. That’s why it’s also important for artists to be very careful of their lyrics because music is spiritual.”

Music fans will recall that Burna Boy became the first Nigerian solo artist to win the Best Global Music Album for Twice As Tall at the 63rd Grammy Awards in 2021.
