South Africa head coach, Desiree Ellis, has attributed the narrow 2-1 defeat suffered in the hands of the Super Falcons to poor marksmanship.
She made this known while speaking at the post-match presser on Tuesday evening.
Nigeria edged past the holders and perennial rivals in the semi-final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) played at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.
Banyana Banyana conceded late in the first half after Rasheedat Ajibade converted from the penalty spot for Nigeria.
Linda Motlhalo then equalized for South Africa from another spot kick on the hour mark.
However, Michelle Alozie won it for the Super Falcons with a long-range effort deep into stoppage time.
While analyzing the match, Ellis stated that the failure to convert their chances cost them victory in the game.
She said, “We wanted to win. If we had taken our chances, we could have won the game.”
South Africa after the loss will now battle the Black Queens of Ghana for third position on Friday.
