Supreme Court judgment on Edo poll: Ighodalo says it’s robbery validated by apex court

By Ishaya Ibrahim

The Supreme Court has validated the election of Monday Okpebholo as governor of Edo State, affirming that he was the rightful winner of the September 2024 governorship election.

On Thursday, a five-member panel of the apex court, led by Mohammed Garba, dismissed as lacking in merit an appeal by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to nullify the outcome of the governorship election that held in the state on September 21, 2024.

In a swift reaction, Ighodalo said he could not  pretend that what was delivered by the Supreme Court as judgment amounted to justice.

According to Ighodalo in a post on his X handle, the election of September 21, 2024 was a robbery which has tragically been validated by the highest court in the land.

He said he felt betrayed not only by the actions of those who robbed him of his mandate, but by the institution entrusted to protect Nigeria’s democracy.

He said despite this travesty, the struggle to reclaim the soul of Benue hasn’t closed.
