The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has insisted that she is popular and will be  re-elected should she decide to contest for the same seat in the National Assembly during the 2027 general elections.

She made this known on Tuesday while featuring on Channels Television
programme, ‘Political Paradigm’

It will be recalled that in July 2024, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike asserted that Kingibe would not return to the “Red Chamber” in 2027.

However, while addressing the threat by the minister during Tuesday’s interview, the Labour Party senator expressed confidence that she would secure a resounding victory if she chooses to run again.

Kingibe, who serves as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, also acknowledged Peter Obi’s impact in her emergence, but added that she also contributed to the resounding victory recorded by the 2023 LP presidential candidate in Abuja.

“I know that I will win in a landslide victory, bigger than the last one. The last one, bear in mind, that I went to the Senate with one of the highest, if not the highest votes of any legislator.

“And it was not just about (Peter) Obi. Yes, he brought some votes, but I also brought some votes to him that would not normally go to him,” she said.

Kingibe went on to reveal that the people of Abuja harbour resentment toward the former Rivers State governor, who was appointed FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023.

Kingibe claimed Wike has thus far treated the people of the FCT with disdain and contempt.
