A truck driver has been arrested for allegedly ramming into a motorcycle taxi and killing one Temilade Adekunle, a National Diploma 1 student of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FPI), in an accident around Sayedero market in Yewa Council of Ogun on Thursday.
A traffic update by Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said brake failure caused the accident.
A video of the scene showed the deceased lying on the ground with blood splashed around her, and some voices heard saying she fell in front of the truck, per The PUNCH.
Sources in the school confirmed that Temilade had just left the exam hall and was on her way home when the accident happened.
Akinbiyi disclosed that the accident occurred at about 10.15am and involved a granite-laden truck, an unregistered Toyota car, and a motorcycle taxi whose operator fled the accident scene after the crash.
“A fatal RTA/RTC at Sayedero market, Yewa South. It involved an Iveco truck with number plate AAA 640 XX, an unregistered Toyota car and a motorcycle. The cause of the accident was brake failure,” he said.

“Traffic was affected, but TRACE operatives were on the ground managing the traffic situation, and the victim has been taken to the Ilaro general hospital morgue by the FPI school authority with their ambulance.”
FPI spokesperson Sola Abiala disclosed that the truck driver was arrested by sympathisers at the scene of the accident and handed over to the police.
