By Eberechi Obinagwam
Eniola Adebiyi started buying and selling early in life, making little income. The business however took a dramatic turn when she became pregnant as a young lady in 2018. At this point, she required stable income to support herself and her unborn child.
This made her double her efforts in her retail outfit which eventually led to the establishment of HenyHola Stores, a registered company that specializes in selling a wide range of items, including pieces of jewelry, unisex clothing, and accessories.
Through hard work and dedication, Eniola has successfully grown her business, defying the odds and proving that young motherhood is not a barrier to achieving entrepreneurial success. Her story serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of determination and the importance of pursuing one’s passion.

Starting up
Eniola took the bold step in registering her business HenyHola Stores in 2023 after going into business fully in 2018 while carrying her first pregnancy as a young lady. She narrated that becoming pregnant at a younger age led her to embrace entrepreneurship. “I have been buying and selling since I was a young lady, but I really got into business during my pregnancy in 2018.

“Experiencing pregnancy as a young girl was a turning point for me. It made me realize I needed something concrete to hold on to—something that could provide stability for me and my child. That period pushed me to explore the business world seriously. I knew I couldn’t just sit and wait; I had to take charge of my future. That’s when I fully embraced entrepreneurship”, she said.
Raising the necessary capital
The CEO of HenyHola Stores said starting up her business was rough and emotional. She said amid her struggles to establish her brand, she learned to understand her customers which has helped her to grow.
“It has been rough –sometimes even emotional. I’m an emotional person, and the weight of running a business can bring tears to my eyes. But I’m also blessed. I’ve learned to understand my customers better, and every interaction—good or bad—has helped me grow as a businesswoman,” she said. Despite the challenging start, Eniola said she was able to make the necessary turnover that led to the expansion of her business.
Breaking the boundaries
To Eniola, officially registering her business in 2023 was a significant milestone. According to her, it solidified her commitment to long-term success. Her breakthrough was also due to the personal connection she created with her customers. This has led to bigger returns. She said: “Building a deeper connection with my customers. Understanding their needs and preferences has been very fulfilling.”
She also acknowledged the impact of social media on businesses and how it is helping her business. “I am still learning how to use social media in ways that align with my strengths and values. But I must say that it has changed how businesses operate and it has an effect in my own business too.”
According to her: “Social media has changed how businesses operate. Without content creation, you won’t be noticed. But honestly, all the trends — like dancing to promote products — aren’t for everyone, and they’re definitely not for me. I’m still learning how to use social media in ways that align with my strengths and values.”

Challenges of capital
Eniola said her biggest challenge has been access to capital. This challenge, she said, has made her miss opportunities. “The biggest challenge is access to capital. There are times I see great opportunities to expand my inventory, but I don’t have the funds to seize them. It can be frustrating knowing that my business could grow faster if I had the right financial backing,” she said.
CEO, HenyHola Stores said despite her challenge, her passion for what she does and the lessons learned have kept her in business.
Thoughts on Japa
On Japa, Eniola said the situation of the country isn’t giving value to hard workers. Hence, the reason Japa has become a trend. “I know it’s hard to accept but it’s the truth.”
Eniola’s concern for struggling women
Eniola’s story serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of determination. She advised young women to start small but think big, urging them not to be afraid of challenges because they are part of the process. She said: “Stay focused, keep learning, and believe in yourself. If I can do it, so can you.”
Eniola’s mission is to grow her brand into something bigger, reach more customers, and continue providing quality products. “The journey is just beginning, and I’m determined to keep pushing forward,” she said.
