Amorim admits Dorgu was ‘careless’ after picking up red card in Man United’s 3-2 win over Ipswich

Amorim, however, insisted that “Dorgu is ready for the Premier League” despite his mistakes during the encounter

Manchester United boss, Rúben Amorim has admitted that his defender, Patrick Dorgu was “careless”, after he received a straight red card against Ipswich Town in an English Premier League (EPL) encounter played on Wednesday night. 

Dorgu, who joined the Red Devils from Serie A club, Lecce, during the January window, will now serve a three-match ban after the card he received during their 3-2 win.

It was an eventful outing for the Danish international, who played a role in Jaden Philogene’s first goal in the fourth minute of the game.

Despite conceding first, Man United fought back to take the lead, thanks to an own goal from Sam Morsy and a Matthijs de Ligt’s goal.

However, the visitors restored parity when Philogene grabbed his second of the night for Ipswich after Dorgu was shown a red card for an uncalculated challenge on Omari Hutchinson in the 43rd minute.

Harry Maguire restored United’s advantage with an emphatic header – which proved to be the winner – at the start of the second half.

Speaking to reporters after the highly entertaining encounter, Amorim said, “Patrick Dorgu is ready for the Premier League, he has proven that in the last few games.”

He added, “Any player can make a mistake like that. He wants to play the ball, but he was maybe a bit careless in the way he went into contact”.

The red card means Dorgu will miss Man United’s next three matches in domestic competitions, starting with the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Fulham on Sunday.
