Two-storey building collapses in Lagos, search and rescue operation underway

Dozens of people are trapped in a two-storey building under construction in the Ikota area of Ajah, Lagos that collapsed and killed some.

The incident occurred on Mega Mall Estate, Mobile Road, Inikpa Villa, Ikota.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the incident, with the Lagos Office Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, saying the cause remains unknown.

“Information indicates that more people are likely trapped in the rubble. Search and rescue operation is ongoing. Investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of collapse,” Farinloye explained.

Videos circulating on social media show emergency teams trying to rescue those trapped in the rubble.
