Fayose’s brother declares for Ekiti governorship race

By Jeffrey Agbo

Emmanuel Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, has officially declared his intention to contest in the state’s next governorship election.

In a statement on Friday, Fayose explained that his decision stemmed from a desire to run an “inclusive government”.

He vowed to challenge the Biodun Oyebanji-led government, stating, “I am in the race to dislodge the Oyebanji-led government, and eventually, if I win, I will run an inclusive government that would steer Ekiti in the right direction.”

Fayose’s ambition gained momentum after his brother’s controversial meeting with President Bola Tinubu, during which the former governor reportedly pledged support for Oyebanji’s administration. The meeting has since sparked accusations of anti-party activities within the PDP in Ekiti State.

Undeterred by these developments, Fayose expressed confidence in his chances, saying he would shock everyone by picking the PDP form and earning the trust of the people of Ekiti to win.

He said, “I read about the meeting in the newspapers like any other person and I wish to state that the meeting has nothing to do with my aspiration.

“The meeting will not in any way impact my aspiration because the former governor, being my elder brother, is only exercising his democratic rights of freedom of choice.

“His choice and preferences will not and cannot in any way impact negatively on my bid as we are separate entities pursuing different goals.”

“So my brother is on his own and it’s left for the leadership of our great party to ascertain his political allegiance either to our PDP or APC,” he added.

Fayose also called on his supporters to remain steadfast and resolute in their quest for positive change, adding that come 2026, the PDP will return to power to rebuild Ekiti.
