One Joshua Nwafor, aged 40, has allegedly killed his wife Charity in a fight over how to prepare a meal of yam in their home in Nsokkara, Ezza South Council in Ebonyi.

The marriage of Joshua, a native of Nsokkara, and Charity, originally from Awkuzu was bless with children.

An eyewitness narrated that the fracas began when Joshua brought out a tuber of yam to boil for the family to eat but Charity insisted on having roasted yam instead and went ahead to roast it.

The disagreement escalated when Joshua became angry, dragged his wife into the room, locked the door, and beat her up until she died.

The eyewitness advocated for peaceful resolutions, advising that when a marriage becomes life-threatening, the victim should leave regardless of society’s opinion, per Vanguard.

Ebonyi Police Public Relations Officer Joshua Ukandu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, condemned the incident and gave an assurance that a thorough investigation would be conducted and the suspect charged to court.

In a separate marital dispute in the South West, a man identified simply as Tafa  narrated in court last week how his wife Ramota was stubborn, violent, and refused to let him have peace of mind, which made him seek a divorce.

Tafa told a Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan that he and Ramota did not perform the normal wedding ceremony even though she moved in with him after they met on the street, had sex, and she became pregnant.

He said he knew none of Ramota’s family members and so could not report her to them when she started misbehaving.

Ramota, apart from fighting him at home, he added, would come to his workplace to embarrass him.

Tafa requested an order restricting his wife from threatening and interfering with his private life.

“I regret that my path and that of my wife ever crossed,” Tafa said in giving evidence.

Ramota acceded to her husband’s request and the court dissolved the marriage, saying it had broken down irreconcilably.
