Chioma Chukwuka says she learnt Yoruba to fit into role in ‘Seven Doors’

Chioma added that the type of Yoruba language spoken in the Netflix series, ‘Seven Doors’ is not the common one spoken on the streets of Lagos

Actress, Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha has said she had to learn how to speak Yoruba language while preparing for her role in the recently released Netflix series, ‘Seven Doors‘.

The Nollywood thespian made this known while featuring on a TVC programme alongside her co-star, Femi Adebayo.

Akpotha in the movie played the role of an Igbo queen married to a Yoruba king (played by Femi Adebayo), bringing to life a tale of kingship, kinship, family, love, betrayal, and restitution.

However, the role required that the character is able to speak Yoruba fluently.

Speaking during the  interview, Chioma disclosed that she learnt Yoruba specifically for her role in the series.

She added that the type of Yoruba language spoken in the movie is not the common one spoken on the streets of Lagos.

Chioma Chukwuka said, “I had to learn Yoruba for my role in Seven Doors. The Yoruba in the movie was not the regular one spoken in Lagos State, so I had to be very particular about the tone.”
