Human rights lawyer and popular influencer, Deji Adeyanju has said some senators passed the 2024 budget into law without knowing what it contains, suggesting they will do same with the 2025 appropriation.
He made this known on Thursday via his X handle, while commenting on the recent budget presentation by the president.
On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu presented the 2025 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly for the 2025 fiscal year.
The budget which was titled: “The Restoration Budget: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity”, revealed that N4.91 trillion was allocated to Defence and Security, Infrastructure had N4.06 trillion, while Education and Health got N3.52 and N2.48 trillions respectively.
Reacting to the budget presentation, Adeyanju lamented that the country has defended so low that senators no longer scrutinize budget before passing it.
He further noted that five senators informed him that they never saw the last budget before it was passed into law.
Speaking via his verified social media page, the activist tweeted: “5 senators told me they never saw the last budget after several demands; it was later passed into law with the speed of light.
“I’m sure, senators won’t also see this budget, neither will they scrutinize it and it will be passed. This is how low we have descended as a nation.”
