A Human Rights Activist and Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko in Ondo State, Dr Tunji Abayomi has said that for Okeagbe Akoko Community to have a rapid development, youths in the community must be developed through various forms of employment to drive it’s economy to prosperity.
Abayomi who made this known in his address at the Okeagbe 100th anniversary Economic summit at Okeagbe Akoko in Akoko North West Local government area of Ondo state, noted that the terms and conditions, the options and priorities for the development of Okeagbe are very clear.
The constitutional lawyer who hails from the community said, “We need to properly manage the growing population of youths for the best efforts for Okeagbe city developments.”
He noted that ‘if one Guy Gargiulo at a time of mass poverty can, through the power of ideas (WILL) and dedicated effort (WORK) transform Okeagbe to a notable and noble city, we the children and non children of the Great G.G who are here in Okeagbe can do more if we are determined.
“Let us raise a government of the people of Okeagbe, by the people of Okeagbe through selection or election inspired by our Kings and for the peoples of Okeagbe.”
Abayomi further said “Abraham Lincoln the 16th United States President said that to make a difference, you cannot continue with the same old order or walk on a beaten path. You have to burn for distinction, you have to be different, you have to be innovative.
“The development of Okeagbe has primarily been through the efforts of her valiant children. Let us uplift the effort to a new citadel.
“Now, I propose for Okeagbe a bold idea, the idea of a city government under the authority of our Kings. A city government will more effectively lead, prioritised and accelerate the development of Okeagbe,” he noted
“We also need to have policy on infrastructure and health and a city wide policy that will prevent the reoccurrence of the burglary of Gargiulo’s house and other houses in the community,” he added
Abayomi appreciated and commended the efforts of the Minister of Interior, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Kings and many other sons and daughters of the community particularly Otunba Solomon Ayodele Oladunni, the Asiwaju of Okeagbeland on the development of community.
