By Jeffrey Agbo

The national power grid suffered another collapse on Tuesday, with reports confirming a loss of power generation at around 1:39 pm.

Prior to the outage, power generation had dropped to 2,711 megawatts by 1:00 pm, down from a peak of 3,631 MW. Earlier, at approximately 6:00 am, generation had reached a high of 3,934.77 MW.

Between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm, power generation fell to zero.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) acknowledged the disruption, calling it a “partial disturbance” that occurred at approximately 1:52 pm on November 5, 2024.

TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that the disturbance was triggered by a series of line and generator trippings, which destabilized the grid. While some parts of the system were affected, others remained operational.

“TCN engineers are actively working to restore bulk power supply to the affected areas,” Mbah stated. “Power was restored to Abuja at 2:49 pm, and we are gradually bringing supply back to other regions.”
